Starting at the base of every societal startup. What problem are you trying to solve?

Our oceans are being overfished in order to turn the fishes into feed for animal production in a non-sustainable way. We also have a food waste system that is not fully used where we can find expand the value chain.

How are you going to solve this? What is your idea?

We will farm insects on food waste and substitute fish meal in animal feed and make a more sustainable product.

What impact do you hope to have?

We’re hoping that we can be part of establishing global fish stocks and reduce the climate impact of animal production.

Focusing more on your team. Who are you? What is your background?

Erik is the co-founder of Rude Food, a not-for-profit initiative to counter food waste in the city by  recirculating excess food through upscale pop-up events and catering. Previous: tech cluster Mobile Heights and the startup Tunaspot. Erik holds an MSc in Economics from Lunds university.

Fredrik works with food and sustainability on a system level in the Nordic region. One project is related to making the food system within a city more sustainable and another how public meals can play a bigger role in the welfare system. Previous: food cluster Livsmedelsakademin and Lund University. Fredrik holds an MSc in Biotechnology from Lunds University.

Why did you become societal entrepreneurs? Or really, why do you do what you do?

Because we want to contribute to reduce overall climate impact. Working towards a holistic goal and with the challenges you face when you’re trying to change a system is very motivating.

If you had one advice to give to other social entrepreneurs, what would it be? 

Just do it and keep track of your impact and finances.
